Hat no. 213 is a 5 panel short brim camp hat. It’s a lightweight , half patchwork, cotton hat . This is a hat you never need to take off.

The top 2 panels  are made out of a plaid poplin I found on the Italian dead stock exchange. It’s a light and breathable cotton with a crisp polished finish which gives the crown a nice structure.

I used off-cuts of that poplin,  together with some other cottons,  to make the patchwork for the brim and the 2 side panels. By keeping the seams all in one direction, I was able to cotton tape over them. So the inside of the patchwork looks just as good as the outside, and there’s plenty of breathing.

The beautiful Bali Batik on the front also features on the underside of the brim , and trims the inside of the crown. The pattern is called Dutchy Blues Rosebush Winter.  It’s a limited edition from the 2024 collection of Anthology Fabrics , artisan designed using organic stencils.  The traditional Indonesian process of waxing , dyeing and curing imparts something very special to the fabric. When you hold even the smallest piece in your hands,  you can feel the depth of it’s own individuality. I totally love creating with Bali Batiks.

When it comes to sweatbands , I never buy them in.  Instead I make my own.  Because when you think about it, the sweatband is the only part of the hat that actually comes in contact with your head . Therefore I always strive to achieve a sweatband which gives maximum comfort .  The band on this hat is made from a peached denim mélange cotton which sandwiches an ultra thin layer of high density foam. The result is a band which feels soft and comfy no matter how tight you cinch it.  And because it’s cotton it always stays cool . You could call it a No Sweat sweatband!

Hat no 213 is size M/L .  To be precise, it measures 57 cm (22.5 inches), with the adjustable Velcro closure giving +/- 3cm  of adjustment.

The peak measures 5 cm , or 2  inches , and it’s made of bendable, unbreakable plastic.

For ventilation this hat features my own special star design stitched eyelets , 2 on each side panel.

There’s a Sleepy Dog leather badge embroidered on the back quarter. And inside the band , you’ll find the embroidered serial number , 213, which proves this is,  indeed , a 1 of a Kind, completely unique,  Sleepy Dog Original Hat !
